Will Yoga Help to Get Rid Of Shin Splints?
Yoga and Shin Splints?
If you have been trying to find out how to get rid of shin splints you will have probably been told to use pretty much the same treatments by everyone you have asked which are normally to take plenty of rest, apply ice packs, take anti-inflammatories and use compression sleeves blah blah blah.
However, I was surprised one day when I asked a friend of mine how she got rid of shin splints and she replied that she used yoga to treat her problem.
Yoga and shin splints? I was surprised to say the least, I knew yoga was good for you, but to use it to treat shin splints was never even something I considered so I asked her to tell me a little more about the yoga positions she uses that are beneficial for shin splints.
First of all, my apologies to anyone who is reading this who has no idea whatsoever with regards to yoga (by the way, you can include me in that bracket!). Some of the names used to describe the positions may sound like they have come straight from an episode of Star Trek, but stick with it as these are yoga positions that will definitely help and another treatment method that can be added to our growing list of treatments!
Yoga and Shin Splints, Who’d Have Guessed it?
A lot of people are now using certain yoga exercises as treatments for specific ailments this includes shin splints. There are three exercises (yogasanas) that are commonly used and recommended for treating shin splints. The first exercise is basically a relaxation exercise and is called Shavasna (also known as the Corpse Pose).
The second and third exercises relieve stress located in the lower leg area, the area of the body affected by shin splints, these exercises are called the Viparita Karani and the Sarvangasana.
As I’m not yoga trained I think it better not to try to explain each position in my own words but instead show you each one being performed by experts because; a) it is far easier (sorry, I’m not really that lazy) and b) it is much safer for you to be instructed in this way rather than the instructions of a complete novice!
Shavasna
The great thing about using yoga as a therapy, and these particular positions and relaxation techniques that are beneficial for repairing shin splints, is that not only do they help you recover more quickly, they will also offer you amazing relaxation and a peace of mind that only yoga can bring to a stressful and rigorous lifestyle.
So…if you want to try something different to treat your shin splints then why not try yoga! If you don’t think that yoga and shin splints is a match made in heaven for you personally then why not try out this 5 step shin splints treatment plan that will eliminate shin splints for good!
Have a great shin splints free day from…
