Shin splints is a very common condition which can be experienced by anyone the world over, from the casual Sunday morning rambler to professional sports people, absolutely anyone can suffer from shin splints.
Shin splints occur when the muscles and tendons surrounding the shin, or tibia, are overworked and become inflamed. The medical term for this condition is Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome.

1.Take a rest. If you are suffering from shin splints, it is imperative that you let your leg rest no matter what. Your condition might get worse if you continue to do strenuous activities. A two or three day lay off may improve your condition. Then, before going back to your previous routine, you can start with several days of light exercises like biking or swimming. If the pain is too much to bear, you can also use crutches to take the weight off your injured leg. It is also recommended that you do not walk too much or it may hinder the healing process.
2. Use some ice. For athletes and exercise buffs, it is important that as soon as you feel pain in your shins to stop what you are doing and get some ice packs on them. 3. Using compression on your leg. After treating your leg with an ice bag, compress it with a bandage or towel, whatever is available. If the numbness from the ice goes away, get another pack and apply it on your shins again. 4. Elevation of your legs. After applying ice and compressing it, prop some pillows and put your leg or legs above it. Elevating your legs will reduce inflammation as well.
The most effective way of avoiding shin splints is definitely prevention, but if you want to know how you can make shin splints a distant memory then it will take a lot more than rest, ice, compression and elevation to pull off that gig!
A good balance of rest and exercises for shin splints will help your body get the stability it needs to recuperate from the day’s activities and a good pair of sports shoes will also help reduce the stress that your legs receive from exercising or walking long distances, but…
