Which Running Shoe is the Best?
Which are the Best Running Shoes?
My previous post entitled Shin Splint Stretches for Tennis Players prompted a question from a reader: “Which running shoe is the best?”, so what I thought I’d do is devote this post to answering that very same question.
When trying to find out how to get rid of shin splints you may have read, or even been told, that having the correct footwear is absolutely essential in ensuring shin splints are kept in check. This is true of most footwear that is designed specifically for sport, they will all have been designed to cope with the stresses of a specific sport in mind, this is exactly why you need to ensure you have some good running shoes and it doesn’t matter if you prioritize a certain sport, if you run, even for training, you will need to have proper running shoes.
As to answering the question of, which running shoe is the best, it really all boils down to an individual’s anatomy (not just their feet either!), running style, and the whether they run on track, road, or do cross country.
Please take note that although having a good pair of running shoes is absolutely vital in stopping shin splints from starting in the first place. However, if you are already suffering with shin splints you will need to know how to get rid of them completely and you can learn everything you need to know about doing so in this fantastic e-book called ‘Stop Shin Splints Forever‘, which is a 5 step plan for eliminating shin splints, check it out now, it’s terrific!
Getting back to the running shoes question there are certain boxes that you definitely need to ensure are ticked when purchasing running shoes and these are:
- Good Stability: Look for running shoes that offer support for all parts of the foot, if a running looks a bit weak in a certain part of the shoe chances are your foot will not have enough support there.
- Good Cushioning: A good running shoe should have excellent cushioning properties on the sole, particularly the heel because the majority of cases of shin splints are caused by the constant impact that the heel is subjected to when running.
- Motion Control: The sole should also be slightly curved which is a design that helps the foot to roll from heel to toe, instead of the two movements that happen when you lead your stride with a heel impact; these are the initial impact and then the sudden slapping down of the front of the foot to push off, it is actually the second movement that causes all the problems!
A running shoe that possesses all these attributes will minimize the chances of shin splints considerably by keeping the feet in a straight line which will prevent over-pronation and any rolling of the ankle.
I could start listing the vast array of running shoes that are currently available to runners around the world, but it would easily run into the hundreds, and as I have stated, what is the best shoe for one person might well be a bad choice for another, but you can check out a wide selection of excellent running shoes on Amazon simply click the appropriate link below!
