How to Get Rid Of Shin Splints

Regular Treatment or Permanent Cure?

When people ask about the best way to get rid of shin splints they never really stop to think if the information they receive is about treatment for the symptoms of shin splints or, if in fact it will truly teach them how to get rid of shin splints for good.

Obviously, if you have ever suffered with shin splints, or you are currently suffering with them, you will know how excruciatingly painful they can be, so it makes perfect sense to want to know how to get rid of shin splints for good, doesn’t it?

I find it absolutely amazing that so many runners and sports people accept shin splints as part of the course and make do with the traditional treatments. Let me pose a question to you, and be honest with yourself when answering this but if I was to ask, “Do you really want to know how to get rid of shin splints?” you would obviously say yes but are you expecting to hear back an answer that will help you eliminate shin splints for good or are you expecting to hear an answer that will only provide temporary relief that you can use the next time you are struck down with shin splints?

My bet is that you would want the permanent solution!

Unfortunately, 99% of the time you are told to rest, use ice packs, take anti-inflammatories and possibly use compression sleeves. There is absolutely nothing wrong with ANY of these treatments, they are all very effective in helping in the recovery process, relieving pain and reducing any swelling there may be, but the truth is that although they all provide relief from shin splints they do nothing to stop the condition from coming back. To stop shin splints completely you have to find the source of the problem, (without doing so, you will never know what form of treatment to use to get rid of shin splints once and for all), then correct whatever it is that is causing you to have shin splints in the first place.

Will My Doctor Tell Me How To Get Rid Of Shin Splints?

I have been to a few different doctors on countless occasions asking the same question – “how can I get rid of these shin splints for good?”, only to be told repeatedly that I should take a break from running, to use the standard treatments as mentioned earlier, take some prescribed anti-inflammatories, and once or twice it has been mentioned that I should see a specialist who can look at providing me with some custom made orthotics! I remember saying…”I’ve only got shin splints for crying out loud, surely there must be a simple way to get rid of them?”

You may be one of the lucky ones, whose doctor will look deeper into your problem than most others but, generally speaking, shin splints is normally considered to be a common condition by doctors, that can be treated simply at home with rest and the application of ice.

What About a Podiatrist Would They Be Able To Help?

If you have had shin splints on a regular basis you may well have been recommended to a Podiatrist.

For those who don’t know, a podiatrist is a foot and ankle specialist. A Podiatrist can be beneficial in that they will thoroughly examine and then diagnose if your feet or ankles are correctly or incorrectly aligned (sorry, I’m oversimplifying here!) and can help in correcting an issue should one exist…in my case, as with so many others, a podiatrist was not the solution and was also fairly expensive!

So…what next?

How to Get Rid Of Shin Splints In 3 Simple Steps

Having shin splints repeatedly has driven one man to the edge of his sanity, this man’s name is Gary Buchenic. Gary used to be a chronic sufferer of shin splints having suffered with them constantly for eight years before finally breaking down dramatically whilst out jogging. It was at that point that he decided enough was enough and that he was going to find a way to completely free himself from shin splints for good, but to cut a long story short, (read the rest of Gary’s story here) he concluded that there were just 3 very simple steps to take when trying to get rid of shin splints for good…

Step 1: Identifying the Actual Root Cause of Your Pain

The first step in becoming shin splints free is to identify the true cause of the problem but before doing this you must first understand that the term shin splints is generic as it covers a number of different conditions that affect the lower tibia (shin-bone).

That being said, the vast majority of shin splints cases can be attributed to just four primary causes. Gary Buchenic’s book ‘Stop Shin Splints Forever‘, helps you to easily identify which of the four causes are responsible for your shin splints, using very simple tests.

Step 2: Treat the Symptoms Before Eliminating Shin Splints

As you are no doubt aware, sometimes shin splints pain can be unbearable and even the slightest pressure on, or movement of, the affected area can mean peeling yourself off the ceiling. So, before taking the most important step of eliminating shin splints for good you will want to alleviate the pain. Gary covers the most common treatments in his book, but there are also a few you will probably not have heard of.

Step 3: Getting Rid Of Shin Splints By Treating the Causes and Condition

Once you know what is causing your shin splints and the pain has subsided you are finally ready to start getting rid of shin splints so they never return to bother you again!

Unfortunately, I cannot go into specifics about the treatments that Gary recommends simply because I’d be infringing upon his copyright by doing so but I will say they are gold dust. When you weigh up the small price that this information costs compared to the amount of relief that it brings, purchasing it is a complete no-brainer!

It’s important to add that there is a reason why Gary advises everyone to follow his three steps, firstly you cannot apply step 3 without knowing step 1 and using step 2 to try and do so is…well…just plain silly really!

Gary actually states that the most important step in getting rid of shin splints is the first step, and not the third.

If you get your diagnosis wrong you’ll be using treatment techniques that will not be as effective for that specific condition, get the diagnosis right and the effectiveness of the specific treatment will be ten times greater!
